seeking artists, performers, entertainers, characters,
experts, talents, and human spectacles

dearest friends and strangers (and pardon me if you get this twice,
three times...),

i seek conspicuously creative people of all ilk to do their thing for
the popcorn anti-theater bus.

perhaps you don't know what that is. in short, it works like this: on
the night of the second friday of each month, a group of people - some
friends, some strangers - board a bus in san francisco, and ride around
in it while enjoying the on-board entertainment and making merry -
talking, partying, having good times. the bus stops at a mysterious
and wonderful bay area spot, and the bus riders disembark to see a
performance, look at art, or engage in some other adventure. then its
back on the bus, and the whole cycle starts anew. if you'd like, check
out the (old and outdated, but still useful and soon to be updated)
popcorn bus website: www.popcornantitheater.com/

me, i'm the leader of the bus: ring master, navigator, enabler, and den
mother. and i need you - your talents and your skills - to make this
thing happen, both off the bus and on.

play the accordion? rock lady of spain from the back seat. do a great
andy goldsworthy impersonation? we'll take the bus up to sibley park
where you've built your monumental rock towers. culinary master? hold
a pie eating contest at the benches at the ferry building.

recite your latest poem from the top of mount tam. teach the bus how
to knit. play that schubert quartet in the parking lot at bay meadows.
give the bus a lecture on super symmetric string theory. screen your
film against the back wall of the amc 1000. demonstrate your japanese
rope work in your very own garage.

oh, and here are some other miscellaneous details: the bus makes it's
triumphant return after a year-plus hiatus on friday, march 11. the
theme will be "the rite of spring". every month, there'll be a new
theme. the entertainment need not adhere to the theme per se, but
dress up in a costume, at least. for the rite of spring, try flowers,
bunnies, baby animals, blades of grass, virgin sacrifices, etc.

so, anyway, as i'm sure you can imagine, the quicker, simpler, and more
self-contained your project is, the better. electricity will have to
be imported to most locations, and we may need to set up and break down
real fast. nonetheless, why let that stop you! i am open to any and
all suggestions. in fact, surprise me! impress me! but please email
your ideas to me in the following format*:

• your name, both your personal, individual name, and that of your
ensemble (if you do that kind of thing).
• what you do (or what you're willing to have done to you, as the case
may be).
• where you'd like to do it, i.e., on or off the bus; in the city, east
bay, marin; at the park, at the beach, in your kitchen (just think, all
those drunk bus riders in your kitchen).
• special needs you'll fulfill yourself and/or obstacles you need help
overcoming.
• your availability, e.g., need to do it in the summer because that's
the best viewing time for your favorite constellations; can't do april
because you'll be visiting gramma, etc.
• your contact information.

please feel free to forward this on to anyone you think might even be a
little bit interested, including mailing lists you might be on.

thanks for your time, and i look forward to reading your brilliant
suggestions soon.

love,
sig

* just in cast that doesn't make sense, here's a demo:

• my name is sig, and my band is called the germans.
• we play noisy, haphazard punk, and our singer is known to break
glassware, knock over furniture, and lose his shoes.
• we'd like to perform on the boat launch past all the condos at the
far south end of jack london square in oakland.
• we play electric and will bring our own generator, but will need help
getting it around, because it won't fit in our car.
• we would prefer to play june, because that's our drunk singer's
birthday, but can't do april, because we're rocking a wedding that
weekend.
• please contact me via this email address, or call 510.207.3160.

I would LOVE to do standup on your bus . I have been doing standup for about 4 years now and this would be a cool gig to put on. I do VERY different and non pc standup but the BurningMan crowd and the SF crowds love me . So if your audiences are hip crowds then I would LOVE to go on. If your audiences are middle aged white people who are pissed cause a black kid called them by their first name - I probably ain't your guy.

•your name, both your personal, individual name, and that of your ensemble (if you do that kind of thing).
    Name is Tapan Trivedi.

•what you do (or what you're willing to have done to you, as the case may be).
I do standup - one of the purest artforms left.

•where you'd like to do it, i.e., on or off the bus; in the city, east
bay, marin; at the park, at the beach, in your kitchen (just think, all those drunk bus riders in your kitchen).
On the bus - or on the beach. I am looking for a cool location for doing standup. I am tired of clubs and bars now.

•special needs you'll fulfill yourself and/or obstacles you need help overcoming.
It would be nice if my voice could be projected but its OK even if its not.

•your availability, e.g., need to do it in the summer because that's the best viewing time for your favorite constellations; can't do april because you'll be visiting gramma, etc.

There are dates that I have booked but I can free up a first Friday if I knew in advance.
